At Silesia Ring, driving in your own car is organised by the track operator itself under the name Open Track. The rules describe it as an event open to amateurs and competitors that is not a competition. Timing is available, but you do not have to use it.

What Open Track looks like

You drive in 20-minute sessions. That time includes the out lap and the cool-down lap, so there are about 15 minutes of real driving. Up to 23 cars can be on track at once. You buy a package of 2, 3, 6 or 9 sessions for the chosen day and pick the times of your runs yourself. There is an instructor on the track.

The day starts with the gates opening at 7:30. The briefing is at 8:20 and again at 12:20, and driving runs from 9:00 to 12:00 and from 13:00 to 17:00. The briefing is mandatory for new drivers and passengers and for those who have not driven at an Open Track for a long time. Before you come you also have to watch the briefing video provided by the operator.

What you need

  • a category B driving licence and an identity document,
  • a road car with a valid technical inspection and third-party liability insurance; a car with visible faults or leaks will not go on track,
  • closed bodywork: open-cockpit vehicles are not admitted, and a convertible drives with its roof and windows closed,
  • a car no louder than 100 dB, because noise is checked,
  • a helmet compliant with FIA, ECE, DOT or Snell for the driver and the passenger; in a closed car an open-face helmet is enough. You can hire a helmet on site, but the number of helmets is limited,
  • clothing with long sleeves and long trouser legs, and full sports shoes.

The operator recommends a screwed-in towing eye, a tow strap or a tow hook. One passenger may ride in the car, in the front seat. A child under 12 may not be a passenger, and older minors ride only with a parent's written consent and the organiser's decision.

How to sign up

Sign-up works through the track's shop. The system shows how full each session is and the number of free transponders, and it adds a transponder to the order automatically if one is available. After payment you receive QR codes for each session and show them to the staff at the pit lane entry. Start numbers are no longer needed. You can add a second driver to the booking, who shares the sessions with you.

You can cancel a booking no later than two days before the date; you then use it at the next Open Track. After that, unused sessions are lost. The timing results go onto the operator's website, including the driver's nickname and the car model.
