Safety

On 6 October 2026 the Nürburgring announced extended contracts with the four companies responsible for the circuit's safety: Riedel Communications (radio communications), Lenz Abschleppdienst (recovery), E-Unit (fire and rescue vehicles) and Nett Stahl- und Metallbau (barriers and fencing). The first three contracts run from the start of 2027 to the end of 2031, the Nett contract to the end of 2034.

What the operator announced

Riedel maintains the digital radio and intercom infrastructure for events and day-to-day track operations. Lenz removes cars that cannot continue under their own power, and according to the announcement this covers not only races but also tourist drives, After Work Classics, test drives, trackdays and driver training; the fleet recovers racing cars, single-seaters and vehicles with alternative drivetrains, and the company can bring in extra recovery trucks at short notice. E-Unit stations specialist fire and rescue vehicles on the Grand Prix circuit and the Nordschleife, including for test drives, trackdays and driver training, with rapid application of absorbent after a fluid spill. Nett installs, inspects and repairs barriers and fencing to the current FIA technical requirements and keeps spare parts on site. Ingo Böder, the circuit's managing director, justifies the long contracts with continuity: the partners know the venue's requirements and local procedures.

What it means for an amateur driver

Anyone driving their own car on the Nordschleife pays per lap but gets the same service as the professionals: the same recovery truck, the same rescue vehicles and the same barriers. The announcement states explicitly that recovery and rescue vehicles cover tourist drives and trackdays, not only races. Contracts until 2031 and 2034 mean that through the whole centenary season and several after it the trackside service will not change between one trip and the next.

The hundredth season

2027 is the circuit's hundredth anniversary. On 8 October the operator published the calendar: the 24-hour race on 27 to 30 May, the fan event "100 Jahre Nürburgring" on 19 and 20 June, the DTM on 20 to 22 August and Rad am Ring, the Nordschleife for cyclists, on 23 to 25 July. There are no tourist drives on major event days, so this calendar defines when the track can be driven in 2027.

What we are watching

The 2027 tourist-drive dates and the centenary season's price list. The operator published the 2026 dates on 15 December 2025; we will check whether the anniversary changes the number of days or the price of a lap.
