In the summer of 2026 the mayor of Żmigród, Robert Lewandowski, confirmed that a circuit with parameters allowing Formula 1 races is planned on about 85 hectares outside the town; the investor has already bought over 60 hectares of land. It would be the first venue in Poland built from the outset for the highest homologation grade.
What is known about the project
The investor has not been named officially and asked for the details to be kept confidential; local media point to the Dominator Group. Talks with the municipality lasted five to six years, according to the mayor. The project is at the environmental-permit stage, a nature survey is still under way, and the mayor expects a building permit "within two years", with the caveat that this is a forecast. A commercial zone is planned around the track, possibly a hotel later. The mayor also stresses that building the venue does not automatically mean a Grand Prix: that is a separate, distant and very costly decision.
The third new circuit in a single year
Żmigród is the third new-circuit project in Poland in 2026. Kraków has ordered design documentation for a circuit on Kosiarzy Street for one million zloty from the city budget, and in Radomsko a concept for a drift and driving venue worth about 60 million zloty met immediate opposition from residents. Noise is the common denominator of all three: Żmigród unofficially analysed the nuisance to residents, and the fate of Tor Poznań shows that without a change to the Sports Act every new venue inherits the same dispute.
What it means for an amateur driver
Nothing for now. A building permit in two years means asphalt in four or five at best. The nearest venue with track days in Lower Silesia is Tor Krzywa, which has its own page in the Track days section. If the Żmigród circuit were built, it would sit between Wrocław and Poznań, next to the S5 expressway, within a day's drive of all of western Poland.
What is missing from the picture
The date and form of the mayor's statement (the outlets do not give it in their text), confirmation of the investor by the municipality, and the status of the procedure at the Regional Directorate for Environmental Protection in Wrocław. We have asked Żmigród town hall and will add the answer to this story.
